You might be tired of using the same name in Overwatch 2. Or maybe you started maining a new Hero and want your in-game name to reflect that.

Whatever your reasons, this guide explains how to change your name in Overwatch 2.

How to Change Your Name in Overwatch 2

For PC players and console players playing cross-play, your BattleNet BattleTag is the name displayed to other players in Overwatch 2.

IF you’ve never changed your BattleTag before, follow these steps to change your name in Overwatch 2 for free:

  1. Go to your account page on the BattleNet website.
  2. On the “Account Details” tab, you can change your Overwatch 2 name under the BattleTag section.

Every BattleNet account can change their BattleTag once for free. However, if you’re like me and have already changed your BattleTag, you’ll need to purchase a BattleTag Change to change your name in Overwatch 2.

In the United States, a BattleTag change costs $10. You can check the price in your country in the BattleNet store.

If you’re playing on console and do not have cross-play enabled, the name that is displayed to other players is your Gamertag/PSN ID.

To change your name in Overwatch 2 on PlayStation (viewable to others when not playing with cross-play enabled), change your PSN ID by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Accounts > Profile > Online ID.
  2. Enter a new PSN ID.

To change your name in Overwatch 2 on Xbox (viewable to other players when not playing with cross-play enabled), change your Xbox Gamertag by:

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. Select your Xbox profile.
  3. Go to My Profile > Customize Profile.
  4. Update your Gamertag under “Choose your new Gamertag”.

If changing your BattleTag to change your Overwatch 2 name, you should know:

  • Each BattleNet account only gets ONE free name change.
  • After your free BattleNet name change, you can purchase additional changes for $10.
  • Changing your BattleTag will change your display names in all Blizzard/BattleNet games, including Overwatch 2, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, StarCraft, etc.
